About the Overhead Crane Operator Instructor Course

The Overhead Crane Operator Instructor train the trainer program is designed to fulfill the knowledge requirements of an overhead crane trainer and to instruct participants on how to provide effective training and evaluation of your overhead crane operators. Training is specific to the equipment types used in your operation. To assist in building an effective classroom theory program, a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation is provided.

Overhead Crane Operator Instructor Course Outline

Prerequisites:

Instructor candidates must be competent on all overhead cranes and attachment classes that they will be required to instruct on. Ideally, the participant must be an effective communicator with strong verbal and directional skills.

Compliance:

Our programs meet or exceed all pertinent guidelines and regulations including components from:
 CSA B167-08
 ANSI/ASME B30 series
 Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
 Canadian Federal Bill C-45

Purpose:

This course was designed to provide companies that have their own Trainers and want to use the course so they can carry out their own training internally. The course focuses on providing the foundation for due diligence and meeting compliance requirements.

Duration and Location:

 2 to 4 days - depends on the number of participants, equipment types used at your location and the added optional days selected
 Optional 3rd day includes an instructor coaching and providing feedback to your trainer during their first classroom session with your operators.

Hazard awareness Internal responsibility
Basic equipment and design principles Capacity ratings/load weight calculations
Pre-shift equipment inspections Equipment applications/rigging
Types of hardware Pedestrian/operator safety
Safe hoisting/operating techniques Hitches and angles
Hand signals for riggers and operators Turning/flipping loads safely

Program Includes:

 Written examination
 Practical operating instruction and evaluation
 Record of training report
 Individual wallet certificates (for course participants)
 Instructor manual(s) complete with: equipment specific pre-shift inspection forms, operator evaluation forms and practical operating tests
